My very first advertiser order from Performancing

Thursday 21 December 2006 @ 7:30 am

After my expensive lesson at the bank with my ReviewMe cheque, I was looking at my ads and wondering if some of them were worth the while.

I had put up the Performancing house ad on my blogs for some time now and it hasn’t been performing at all. Probably its too competitive with more bloggers than advertisers. My blogs usually end on Page 5 or lower and there are so many blogs for an advertiser to choose from.

I decided to move my Performancing Partners badge way down right to the bottom of my sidebar for a start. My next step would be to remove it completely because all the ads were making my blog ugly and I needed to free up the space for something else with better value.

After I did that, I got my first order from an advertiser on my Mothering Times blog. Woohoo! (If you are busybody you can go view the ad on that blog. Its right below my PayPerPost Affliate button. I moved it back up to the top again from the bottom of the sidebar where it was relingushing to give it a bit more prominence. Afterall the advertiser picked me, so I must do my part. Hehe.)

Cheap thrill but still I’m thrilled nevertheless. Unlike an adsense ad, this feels different in the sense that an advertiser actually went through the listings and picked my blog to advertise on. Wow! Feels good but then a little bit of pressure too. Lol. The advertiser booked my space for a month so I hope that they get something out of it at least, like some clicks and some follow through. Otherwise kesiannya for picking my blog.

This is just part of my ongoing story for my foray into the world of blog advertising. It has certainly made blogging a lot more interesting to me.

Have you started advertising on your blog? No? What are you waiting for? For begginers, I would recommend that you try out Google Adsense first. Its the easiest to implement. Just paste a few codes on your blog and you’re done. Then you can sit back and wait for the pennies to start rolling in.

The bank ate my first ReviewMe Cheque.

Wednesday 20 December 2006 @ 8:50 am

Malaysian publishers are a pitiful lot. (Publishers here refer to website and blog owners who have advertisements on their sites.) If you accept payment via PayPal, you have to find alternative means to withdraw your money. If you accept payment by cheque, its not worth the while if the amount is small.

I’ve heard about the absorbitant bank charges for processing overseas cheques but being “sakai” and never ever been paid a US dollar cheque before, I had to try it out for myself.

And so, for my first ReviewMe post, I chose to receive the payment by cheque. My cheque of USD30 arrived about 2 weeks ago.

I took it to the bank to bank it and ask the bank teller what the charges were like. He told me overseas bank will charge US15 for processing while the local bank charges RM25.

*calculate calculate* I then joked with him on whether I had to end up paying the bank for banking in my cheque to which he gave me a broad smile and said “Tak apa. Ada baki. Ada baki.” Then he told me that the cheque will take about a month to clear and gave me another smile and said “So you will receive your money next year!”

Ouch! What an expensive lesson. You go do your own math to see whats left of my USD30. I asked at another bank and was told that the overseas bank fees will be around USD15-USD20 while the local bank will charge minimum of RM50 for processing. Clearance takes about 6-7 weeks. Now if I had used that bank, I really would have ended up needing to fork out some extra money to pay the bank for that transaction!

So Mr MG is smirking in the background and asking me “You say you work so hard for what? Wasting time only. Got more trouble than earnings.”

Hmmm… just you wait my dear. Just you wait. I’ll show you yet!

Everything is Blogable!

Monday 18 December 2006 @ 8:28 am

You know you’re a blogaholic serious blogger when everything is blogable.

  • you go to a restaurant and you shoot photos of your food because you think they will look great on your blog
  • you stay home to eat and you think that you might want to share your home cooking recipe with your blog readers
  • your neighbours annoy you or you receive bad service somewhere and you think to yourself “Oooh! I am so gonna rant about this on my blog!”
  • you see some nice decorations at the mall and wish you had brought along your digcam so you can share the scene on your blog
  • you have a blogger’s block and you don’t know what to write but you still manage to come up with a post that says “I have nothing to say today”
  • you are happy, sad or mad and you blog about it
  • you go on a holiday and you take many photos for your blog
  • you do crafts with your kids and you take pictures and blog about it
  • you buy something new for yourself and you blog about it
  • you go on a diet and you blog about what you eat or don’t eat

I could go on and on because the list is endless since everything is blogable. I’ll leave you other serious bloggers (ahem!) to continue with the list. Hehe.

Why am I writing this post? I was very busy last week and didn’t get to be near the pc very much so I’m suffering from blog withdrawal symptoms.

Throw out your old bra day

Thursday 14 December 2006 @ 7:00 am

This post is strictly for ladies!

I’m packing my stuff. My style of packing is usually to “throw”. Hehe. “Throwing” helps me reduce clutter and keeps things neat and tidy. A neat and tidy place keeps me organised and clears my mind too.

Today, I want to throw out my old bras and I’m inviting all the ladies out there to join me. Haha. Have you got any of those old, torn, got hole or lace oso come out adi bras? Throw!

Oh, and what about those sexy, lacy thingys that you have outgrown (either became too big or too small for you) but feel too “sayang” to get rid off? Throw!

You knowlah, our sizes change all the time due to pregnancy and breastfeeding etc, once small, suddenly voluptous, suddenly flat like an airport. So don’t hang on to the old. (You’re not going to be able to fit into them again.) Throw!

Go and do this today. Don’t procrastinate. Go and clear your lingerie drawers. Then go buy yourself some new ones as a reward. Hehe. Come on lah. Lets do this together. Its fun and it’ll help us reduce clutter in our homes.

This post applies to undies as well, not just bras. Throw out your old, worn out, torn, too big/too small undies as well please.
