No Time To Talk!

Friday 8 June 2007 @ 1:44 pm

I’m a night owl, hubby is the early bird. Not only that, these days his job requires him to stay back later not by choice but lets put it this way, if he doesn’t he may find himself without a job and us without any income.

Usually he tries to come home early and do his work at home but even then he’s too tired. Quite often he falls asleep immediately after dinner and wakes up in the wee hours to do some work.

As for me, I’m still in lala land of sleep when he wakes up to go to work. So that leaves us with no time to talk at all. Luckily we have sms. He used to have msn at the office but not anymore. That was useful. Boo Hoo Hoo.

Now in order to “talk” I have to resort to writing things down on a paper or email or whatever just so I won’t forget to tell him and sometimes he replies to me on paper too. Silly! But at least we get to “talk” that way.

The corporate world is so sad. Being employed means you have to work hard for long hours. Why can’t employers see that employees need to have a balanced life in order to function better at work? Why can’t they see that a time for rest, family and recreation increases productivity instead of the other way around?

That Funny Feeling (My Epileptic Aura)

Thursday 7 June 2007 @ 11:53 am

What is an aura?

Many seizures start with a warning symptom known as an epileptic aura. The medical term “aura” should not be confused with the mystical aura that supposedly surrounds a living body, although both descriptions come from the Greek for “breeze” or “breath”.

In some circumstances the aura itself may be the entire extent of the epileptic episode, in others there is progression to a full-blown seizure, according to neurologist Dr Andrew Rose-Innes.

People experience widely varied auras. For some, the aura is emotional: a sudden feeling of anxiety, tension or fear. For others, it takes the form of a specific sensation that only they can feel, such as cooling or warming, a particular taste, or a sound (sometimes musical). In some cases the aura appears as a particular odour, often unpleasant, such as burning rubber.

The aura can also manifest in certain people as a feeling of déjà vu – where people or places appear strangely familiar; or its opposite, jamais vu – where people or situations that should be familiar, appear strange. Frequently, the aura is something that the person finds impossible to describe – simply a “funny feeling”.

The above excerpt is taken from Health24.com. Please read more here.

Well now I’m going to attempt to describe my aura but its not easy. I can only describe it as “that funny feeling”. That funny feeling to me is a feeling of primitive fear. I feel afraid (of what I don’t know. I just feel afraid) plus all the accompanying feeling that someone feels when they feel afraid. I feel cold. I feel fear deep inside of me. I feel my stomach feel funny and I feel that something is wrong with me. That is what I feel.

I remember my very first aura. It happened when I was in my late 20s or early 30s. I had been head hunted for an interview. The interview was supposed to be over drinks in the evening at a hotel. I was in the hotel toilet when I felt this strange feeling of fear. Perhaps its the stress which brought it on but I remember the feeling clearly. That was the first time.

Subsequently over the years, sometimes it goes away for several months and sometimes it returns with what seems to me like a vengeance. It’ll come every other day several times a day and when it does. I feel breathless like I’m out of breath and cannot breathe very well throughout the day. I feel all wound up like a wound up clock.

So far this feeling of fear has preceded my seizures. Many articles I read say that if one has this aura then the seizure may come over the next few minutes or hours. Thats tough! If I have this several times a day what am I supposed to do then. Lie down all day????!!!!

Watch Star Trek and other TV reruns on the Internet

Wednesday 6 June 2007 @ 9:44 am

I am kedekut (a miser). I don’t watch pay TV like Astro (paid TV channel in Malaysia). I only watch free TV. However the reception in my area is bad so I can hardly watch any TV at all. Lol! But thats ok because I don’t have time for TV.

Anyway, in my quest to search for free TV, I found TV Links. I’m sharing this link with anyone who is interested to watch old TV episode reruns. It boasts an impressive alphabetical list of shows, movies, cartoons etc which you can watch for free online, episode by episode whenever you are free.

I’ve tried some of the links but a number of them don’t work. However, to my husband’s delight. The Star Trek ones work since he is a Star Trek fan. So to other Star Trek fans you can now watch your favourite episodes over and over again. There is a link to each and every episode for each season of the show.

To the others, if you try out some of the other links to the other shows, please tell me which ones work! Hehe.

As for news, I currently watch NTV7 on WorldIP.TV. This one’s for my overseas friends. If you want to watch local Malaysian news you can watch the Video on Demand or live news to catch up with whats happening back home. I like it because it allows me to watch when I am free. I love anything “On Demand” because I can’t stop whatever I’m doing to watch a news or program so its good if I can watch it afterwards.

At the moment WorldIP.TV is still free but I’m not sure when they’ll start charging. They were supposed to start charging a fee of RM10 per month starting from June but they have not done so yet. Once they start charging, Ms Miser here will probably stop watching because I don’t think the current programs offered there at the moment are attractive enough to make me part with my money.

I’ve got many many more free interactive or streaming TV and news links. Wait yah, when I’m not lazy I’ll post some of them here. Unfortunately the better ones are for US citizens only. Boo Hoo Hoo.

Happy Wedding Anniversary to us

Monday 4 June 2007 @ 9:20 am

I like to write a wedding anniversary post each year just to remind myself of the things we do on that day because I’ve a bad memory. If I don’t write it down, I forget. Lol! This year I write it down in the form of a poem.

This year on our wedding anniversary
It was a day like any other day
The kids whined till we were both weary
And the vacumn broke down to our dismay

This year on our wedding anniversary
I said dear lets go for a grand buffet
I like to get dressed with my accessories
And eat all my daily stresses away

You said “lets go to that place we used to go”
I said “great lets give it a try”
But then the manager told us to go
“Kids are not allowed” he said then he waved goodbye

So we went to that place across the road
And ordered some food that the kids would love
We ate and ate till we wanted to explode
I’m happy so long as I’m not at the stove

There was a sale so we said lets go shopping
We bought the kids some toys and a new vacumn cleaner
This new vacumn cleaner will save us from more mopping
And the toys will improve the kids demeanor

Happy Anniversary dear you said do you like your gift
I’m happy with small things around the house you said
Thank you dear I said with a sniff
Though I would have liked that pretty neckless instead

Thank you dear for still being with me and keeping your vows
Thank you for being such a family man and always being around
Thank you for taking care of me, the kids and the house
Thank you for supporting me when I am unhappy and down

I don’t need flowers, wine and expensive presents
When I have such a wonderful man all year round
We don’t need to celebrate only when there are events
I’m really glad that in you I have found

Someone to be with till I am old and grey
Whom I know will comfort me for the rest of my life
I hope that our love for each other will stay
On our 6th wedding anniversary and as long as I’m your wife

Do you remember what role you played in your kindergarden concert?

Sunday 3 June 2007 @ 12:55 pm

I’m tired of posting serious stuff. So here’s something a little bit more light hearted for a change.

Do you recall what role you played in your kindergarden concert during the good ole days? Hubby was telling me that he was a tree. Lol! I think he probably made a good tree. Hahaha. He had to wear this brown tree trunk….

I didn’t attend any kindergarden but I remember participating in concerts during my primary school days. I think I was in Standard One at the time. The teachers had brought in some cute little national costumes of different countries and made us try them on. I was supposed to be the little dancing Hawain girl but during practise the teachers said I was too stiff (I’m still stiff. Lol!) so they changed my costume to a little Arabian girl instead, complete with headgear and a scarve to cover my face. Hehe.

Then there was a time during school assembly when I went up to sing. Can you imagine a little girl of about 7 or 8 holding a crepe paper flower and belting out…..

“I realise the way your eyes deceived me, with tender looks that I mistook for love, so take away the flowers that you gave me and send the kind that you remind me of. Paper roses. Paper roses………..”

Hahaha. Cos that was what I sang then “Paper Roses” by Marie Osmond if you still remember her. If you don’t you must be young.

I don’t know why I didn’t feel afraid when I was young. Now if you ask me to go on stage and sing the same song, I would faint! Hahaha.

What about everyone else. Do you remember your performing days in school?
