The Battle of the Mooncakes

Tuesday 31 July 2007 @ 9:24 am

Mooncake Boxes

The mooncake battle has begun. I saw it with my own eyes. It started about 2 weeks ago. A little early since Mooncake Festival 2007 or the Mid Autumn Festival isn’t until 25 September 2007 this year.

However, the battle cry has begun. Everyone is joining the battle too. From specialty mooncake makers, to bakeries, hotels, restaurants, ice-cream shops and florists too. May the best packaging win!

At 50sen a bite and more, its certainly a battle worth fighting. Afterall its only once a year. Still, going into battle 2 months before the war seems just a little too early for me. I think I’ll wait a month before tasting my first mooncake. It doesn’t come cheap and its not extremely healthy to consume in large quantities. Lol!

Mummy’s Boy, Daddy’s Girl

Friday 27 July 2007 @ 9:28 am

Image is from DonnaBellas.com

I am a Daddy’s Girl. After my mum passed away when I was 10, I think that left me to dote upon. The others were 14, 15, 17 and 18, well pass the doting age. So yes, I’m Daddy’s Girl. I remember daddy used to buy my favourite foods for me for supper. He was a policeman you see and he worked late quite often. I would wait patiently for him to come home with some special treat for me. I find that Daddies often show their love to their kids with food. Hahaha.

Before I had kids, those I know who had kids told me that opposites attract. You’ll find that boys are closer to mums and girls are closer to dads. “You’ll see” they said knowingly.

Well now that I have a boy and a girl, I find it quite true. My girl is close to her dad and my boy is close to me. Somehow my girl has a special bond with her dad. We put it down to the fact that because she was the firstborn he spent a lot of time helping me out with her like walking and rocking her to sleep when she cried etc.

Having said this, I would however like to add that both my kids are close to me, girl as well as boy. Closer to me than they are to their dads. “Thats because you have the advantage of time.” hubby tells me jealously. Hahaha. He’s probably right. The more time you spend with them, the more they bond with you. I’ve often said that that is the reason why people should not let their kids spend so much time with their maids.

I’m really curious. Do opposites really attract? Are you a mummy’s boy or a daddy’s girl? And what about your kids? Is it the same way too?

Pills, Pills, Pills

Friday 27 July 2007 @ 8:23 am

Image is from budgetstockphoto.com

It would seem that we pop more and more pills as we grow older. My dad has to take his blood pressure medication and medication to control his colestrol. Recently he was prescribed a memory pill to improve his memory. This caused him to have insomnia and when we told the doctor about it the doctor said he should take sleeping pills to help him sleep. I think its getting out of control.

I have to take pills too. Twice a day so that hopefully I don’t get another seizure. Its really hard to remember to take my medicine. The best way of course is to keep them in a pill box and take them right after a meal. The best way is to have a routine and to take them at the same time everyday.

Even then I forget occassionally especially when there is a break in my routine. So to everyone out there who has to make sure their elderly parent remembers to take their pills, please be patient with them. Its really not easy to remember.

I can’t remember so what more when it comes to an elderly person who has a poorer memory. Be patient and don’t be frustrated.

My blogroll is obsolete

Thursday 26 July 2007 @ 10:16 am

I was just writing about how time consumming blogging is. Its so time consumming that the only way I can catch up with reading blogs is to read them from a feedreader. I use the web based bloglines feedreader to read blogs.

During my early days of blogging, I used blogrolling and it helped me to know when certain blogs were updated but a feedreader is much better. When you subsribe to the feed of your favourite blogs, you can see updated posts on the left pane of your pc and you can view a summary of those posts on the right pane. You don’t have to leave your feedreader to visit your favourite blogs. This cuts down my blog hopping time a lot.

My bloglines feedreader allows me to paste a code on my webpage so that the blogroll on my blog gets updated whenever I subscribe to a new feed or delete one from my existing subscription. I did not paste the code on this blog though so this blogroll is very outdated. So if you don’t see your link there don’t despair. I’m still reading you through my bloglines feedreader. Haha.

The blogroll on my blog is definitely obsolete now. I no longer click on the links there. The reason its still there is because I like to see my link on other blogger’s blogs so I suppose they would probably like to see their link on my blog too. Lol!

Is your blogroll obsolete too?

The Power of Schmooze

Thursday 26 July 2007 @ 7:17 am

Thank you BKWorm for giving me this Power of Schmooze award.

The Power of what? Say again? Just what exactly is Schmooze??!

My search for “schmooze” on google yielded rather different results. ”Schmooze” is…

  • the number one party spot in Toronto
  • is a small friendly college established in 1994
  • the fourth edition of the American Heritage Dictionary
  • a bar in Toronto
  • a NY based rock band

Hahaha. But for this award it means “a blogger skilled in the art of small talk”

I also found the link to the origin of the award from my google search. It came from Mike at Gummy the Lovesick Alien. He said..

“Schmoozing as defined by Dictonary.com is the ability “to converse casually, especially in order to gain an advantage or make a social connection.” When it comes to blogging, schmoozing is your ticket to making new friends, getting yourself noticed and building a reputation. Some bloggers are gifted with the ability to effectively schmooze and others not so much.”

Now that I know the meaning, I feel really honoured and would like to pass on the honour to other bloggers gifted with the Power of Schmooze. They are…

1. 5XMom - She can really Schmooze on any of her 13 (?) blogs. (Sorry I lost count on the number of blogs she maintains.)

2. Ah Pek - now that old feller can reaaaaly Schmooze too and he composes poems like writing ABC.

3. Pablo Pabla can Schmooze yes he can. Afterall he is a lawyer. Lol!

4. Yenjai can Schmmoze. He provides After-Meal Gossip on his blog.

5. Jason yes, this young man can schmooze too especially about food.

Not sure why I gave this award to mostly men, young and old. Must be the muscles and the blue badge. Lol! I hope you all like it. You deserve the honour.

Blogging is time consumming!

Wednesday 25 July 2007 @ 2:07 pm

When I first started blogging, I thought it was such a fun activity. At the time I only had several blog “kakis” / “gang” and we visited each other’s blogs and left comments on each other’s blogs happily. I spent some time posting on my blog and commenting on those few bloggers that I knew from the early days.

And then I found out that apart from just writing, I had to learn some new blogging jargon and other new things like a little bit of html codes and how to tweak my template a little. And so I spent some time doing that.

And then I monetized my blog and discovered that I had even more things to learn and a lot more posts to write because you have to write some original posts in between all those sponsored posts that you write. And so, I started a few more blogs and had to spend some time maintaining my blogs and writing more blog posts.

By now, those bloggers that I know had also grown and most of them started having several blogs too. I’m having trouble keeping up with and following those blogs that I like. I do enjoy reading many blogs and following up on those blogger posts that I like but its impossible.

Yes. Blogging is time consumming. There just isn’t enough hours in a day to write blog posts, maintain several blogs, blog hop, write sponsored posts and continue to learn. Its an ongoing learning process and you don’t stop learning. You discover new things and new blogs everyday … if only you had the time.

  • There are so many more things that I need to learn and do for my blogs but I just don’t have the time.
  • There are so many more blogs as well as blog posts that I would like to write and maintain but I don’t have the time
  • There are so many blogs that I would like to read and leave more comments on but I don’t have the time
  • There are so many more sponsored posts that I can write but I don’t have the time
  • There are so many new and good blogs that I would like to explore but I don’t have the time
  • There are many more avenues to improve the earnings of my blogs but I don’t have the time to explore them

If I were to do all the above I’d have to sit in front of my PC 24 hours a day and do nothing else. I wonder how everyone else seem to be able to do it. Tips anyone?

Heavy Rain Woes and a Big Bully!

Monday 23 July 2007 @ 12:59 pm

This is what happens when it rains heavily.

I was leaving the shopping center. The rain had started to gush into the lower basement car park where we had parked our car. We had to drive our 15 year old car slowly to make sure it didn’t stall.

We continued driving slowly to make sure our car did not stall since the road was flooded. The big bus behind us was getting impatient. He honked. And then when he got the chance he overtook us quickly and in such a manner that he splashed water all over our car! Bus drivers like that should be at home jobless. Its really annoying! He continued to speed down the road, overtaking car after car. The rain was heavy and the road was flooded and slippery. The bus driver was endangering the lives of his passengers as well as other road users! Simply terrible!

Anyway, we manage to get home in one piece … only to find that our roof was still leaking at the same places … after fixing it two times.

&*%$&^&$&*(!!*&^%!

Now, thats what happens when it rains heavily!
