Do you have a secret phobia like fear of flying etc?

After I had an epileptic seizure in front of my dressing table, I began to develop a fear for standing in front of the mirror. If I think of it logically, it does not make sense but it does not stop me from being afraid.

A phobia is something very private. Something very hard to explain to another. Sometimes you feel embarrased or ashamed of revealing it, afraid of sounding ridiculous or weak. Sometimes it may even affect your life and your work if the phobia is bad enough for you to avoid doing certain things.

Fortunately, like most other things, help is on hand, on the internet. However you have to be careful to sieve through the loads of information to find the genuine from the fake.

Anyway the point of this post is because I want to share a site which I found recently. I’m an avid surfer (I love to treat the internet as my source of information) and recently I found a wonderful site for those who have a fear of flying. There are many of those sites around but this one was very comprehensive. It even has a free fear of flying help course. The course incorporates videos, photos, sounds and narratives.

Fear of Flying can be experienced or develop in the new mother who suddenly feel nervous about travelling with their little ones, or by a high flying business executive (no pun intended) or even the frequent flyer who experienced a bad flight. In other words almost anyone can experience the fear of flying but it may be hard to explain to family and friends. You don’t have to suffer in silence. This site can help you if you do have such a fear.

This online course can help to foster a positive mind set and inspire confidence as it coaches you on the mysteries of flying, the strange noises you hear, the motions you feel, and associated fears (fear of flying, flight anxiety, claustrophobia, panic attacks, fear of heights and other flying phobias).

The animations, photos and videos in the course can also be used by mothers flying with their kids for the first time to help your children know what to expect. The course is well structured and humorous too. It even has a virtual practice flight with accompanying videos so you know what to expect. It includes a section for women who feal fear and anxiety flying while pregnant or with babies and kids. It is definitely a place to check out if you have aviophobia or the fear of flying.

There is no need to leave a comment about your phobia if you don’t want to. This is not a sponsored post. I am writing this because I know what its like to feel embarrassed and difficult to talk to someone else about your phobia. I hope that this post can help to point someone else who is searching for help to a good fear of flying help site. That is all.

I do have a phobia, but it’s not a secret though I hardly tell anyone about it.

I have this phobia of driving alone to faraway places. That’s why I don’t like to travel far, unless with some one. I feel scared about it. I will feel very alone just by imagining being on the journey alone. I think this is due to my depression. And it has improved since taking medication.

Also, I don’t like my DH travel outstation especially on his own, I get very worried, fear something bad would happen. Unless someone is with him, even then I still worry. This phobia only started after I had my daughter, and probably because of my late mom’s road accident which cost her life, and of course all the news reports on accident rates. Everyday I open the paper I see at least two three cases. It’s just so scary.

I am sorry to hear about what happened to your mom. I think we are all worried when our spouses are travelling. Whats more, after what happened to your mom. I almost lost my sister in a car accident once. I was 21 at the time. While she was at the hospital recuperating, each night I lay in the room we shared feeling very lonely and dark and I jumped each time the phone rang because the doctors had told us that they had done all they could do and all thats left is for us to pray. Fortunately she managed to pull through. Yes, like you say. Its just so scary.

Becoming a mother has heightened my sense of insecurities for the well-being of my kids so I guess, I do have more phobias now compared to when I am single and fancy free. I believe most mothers feel the same way, which is small comfort, isn’t it?

I guess this sense of protectiveness we have over our kids is just mother instinct so we really can’t  help it. :)

I have phobia of getting in a ship/ferry/boat. Sea-sickness puts me off.

Phobia of snakes. Eek! that one, truly mega-phobia

Most people get seasick due to the rocky motions.

I don’t have a fear of flying or heights or anything like that. In fact I’ve even been bungee jumping - I love the adrenalin rush.

But I do have a phobia of public speaking. . . to the point where I’ll avoid it where ever possible. I’ve given a couple of small presentations in the past but always found these hideously nerve wracking. My worst symptom is a feeling of dissociation where I feel like I’m not in control of my own body, let alone the words a say.

I have always found it strange how we can develop these irrational fears. I mean, I’m quite happy doing the things I should truly be scared of (i.e. bungee jumping), but am terrified of simply speaking in front of a crowd of people! It’s just weird!

I know what you mean because I have a friend whose rather unhappy that his fear of public speaking is getting in the way of his career and no one seems to understand that what he feels is more than just the cold sweats before speaking in the public that most people feel.

    Hi

While I was reading this post I thought ‘Great someone’s been to our site and is recommending it.’ I was kinda disappointed to find it wasn’t our site …which we think is the best with videos and podcasts and all the rest. So if you’d care to visit what we think is the biggest help resource for fearful flyers we think you’ll have another great choice available to you. 150 pages of help…that’s big!

    HAPPY LANDINGS

    Keith

Thank you. I’ll check it out. :)
