Yoga - Sun Salutation Links

Friday 20 July 2007 @ 5:58 pm

I am unable to attend Yoga classes so as usual, I turn to the web for help.

My sister tells me that her Yoga instructor told her to do some Sun Salutations daily for her Yoga exercise. She gave me some diagrams to follow but I’m afraid I don’t follow diagrams very well.

I would much prefer to have an instructor guide me but since I can’t, I can still follow some of these animations and video guides which I found on the internet. I’m putting them here for my easy reference but feel free to bookmark this page and use the same links if you find them useful too.

  1. Sun Salutation Animation from Yogasite.com - I love the stickman animation. They’re so cute!
  2. The Sun Salutation step by step from Santosha.com - I like this one because its easy to follow and at the end of it there is a diagram of all the steps in one line so I can view the whole sequence.
  3. Yoga Exercise - Sun Salutation from ABC-of-Yoga.com - I like this animation too and the supporting drawings tell me when to inhale and exhale so its easier for a Yoga newbie like me.
  4. Yoga Video Sun Salutation A and Yoga Video Sun Salutation B from fitsugar.com - I like these for obvious reasons. It comes with music and instructions like attending a real Yoga class but sometimes the video is slow to load.

Next, I’ll probably be searching for some relaxing music and Yoga or meditation music to support me in my Yoga exercise. If you have any good links, I would appreciate if you could share them with me too. Thank you.

Its hard to lose weight

Friday 20 July 2007 @ 12:17 pm

Today I want to rant about my weight. I want to rant about how hard it is to lose weight.

Do you know that I have to be diligent and exercise almost daily and eat like a bird…….. only to MAINTAIN MY WEIGHT??!!

Yes, thats what it takes for me. I have to make sure I exercise and eat to the point that I still feel hungry …. only to MAINTAIN MY WEIGHT!!!!

I can’t seem to lose any weight beyond what I am. Dang! It must be my slowing metabolistic rate. I hate to admit it but my body is telling me that I am getting old.

I put on weight so easily. Even if I eat just a little bit more than what I usually do during the weekends, I can feel and see the difference.

Oh how I envy those who can lose weight easily without trying so hard. Trying so hard to stay away from all that lovely food. I’m so mad I think I shall go out and eat and eat and eat! So there!

If I have one million

Friday 20 July 2007 @ 10:10 am

I was tagged by Montessorimum for this one.

Hmm.. lets see.. If I have $1 million, the very first thing that comes to my mind is

  • I would try to secure my kids’ financial future. To to do these days, don’t be surprised if $1 million isn’t really enough anymore if you’re talking about making sure they also own property etc when they are adults. So it’ll have to mean providing them with the education to secure their own financial future. Education is so costly these days. So yes, if I had $1 million, I would breathe a sigh of relief for that would mean that I would then be able to afford or pay for their education unlike now, have to crack head and work hard.
  • In order to make sure that my $1 million works hard, I will need to invest it smartly to make it grow!
  • Then, I would go SHOPPING! YEEHAW! *jumps up in the air and claps heels together*

Thats it. I’m boring, greedy and selfish. No donations and stuff like that. Lol! What about you?

Narrowband - I want to find out what a young man will do with his $1 million

BKWorm - Will you buy a bookstore? Hehe.

Sweetisu - who is a frugal person like me

Jazzmint - Will it stop you from grabbing those PPP opps from me? Hahaha.

Mott - Will it cure your Superhomes lust? Lol!

My very first Pop Piano Lesson

Thursday 19 July 2007 @ 12:31 pm

My pop piano teacher is about 15 years younger than me, I think. The first thing she said to me when I arrived for my class is “Do you speak Mandarin?” Haha. Sorry. You can’t conduct the class in Mandarin or I would be totally lost.

I didn’t want to waste the first 1/2 hour of my class (each class is 1/2 hour long) discussing about what she was going to teach me. So I brought along my own book and played a piece for her which I had been practising for the past 2-3 weeks. Hahaha.

I discovered that pop piano is very different from classical piano. Its much easier to learn. She basically just told me to play the piece again with my right hand then she taught me an improvisation pattern for the left hand and told me to play it that way.

I played a while and very soon she was saying “Ok bye. See you next week.” Huh?! The lesson was over before I knew it. Too soon!

With pop piano, you just need to know some basics and patterns or styles and playing is entirely up to you to improvise (come up with your own style basically). In no time at all you will be able to play like a pro. No boring theory and practise pieces to play. Hehe. I like! I like!

I hope to be able to pretend to sound like a pro in a few months. That is my objective for learning. More updates later on.

My Yamaha Electone Organ

Wednesday 18 July 2007 @ 12:12 pm

I’ve always wanted to learn the piano but we didn’t have enough money so dad sent me for organ electone classes instead. It was cheaper to get an organ and it fulfilled my desire to learn some music. Dad bought the organ on hire purchase terms. It has served me very well and been with me for a long time. I’ve since sold it. I learned the organ around age 12, I think. I can’t remember!

Anyway, back to my organ. It has moved several places from Kuantan to KL to Penang and to KL again. It has been played by my cousin in Penang who loved it so much that she later took up some Clavinova lessons. It has been played by my nephews who loved it so much that they took up organ lessons of their own and got their own organ later on.

I stopped my organ lessons when we were moving around so much but took it up again when I was working. I was able to pay for my own lessons then. I studied till Grade 6. Later on I even taught a little girl till she took exams for her First Level, (that would be Grade 13 if I’m not mistaken). I was very happy to be able to achieve that.

What is this all leading to? The story of my very first pop piano lesson of course. I will save that for another post. Hehe.

A Rockin’ Girl Blogger. Who me?

Tuesday 17 July 2007 @ 9:18 am

Rockin' Girl Blogger

I was happy to receive this award from Doris Chua who maintains the Home Office Women Blog amongst others. I love this award! Phhwweet! Phhwweet! Why? Because someone called me a girl at age 41. And not only a girl but a Rockin’ girl. Hahaha. *wipes off tears of laughter joy* Thanks Doris. You made my day.

I’m supposed to pass on this award to five other deserving rockin’ girl bloggers. Now thats tough because all those that have been awarded before this truly rock. But come to think of it maybe its not that tough because I know many other girl bloggers who rock so the tough part is narrowing down the choice to 5.

Ok. Now hold on tight and hang on to your seats for the suspense. The award now goes on to….. *chang chang chang* *drumroll* *TADAA*!

  1. Sasha
  2. Lim Ai Lian
  3. Nonya Penang
  4. Hijack Queen
  5. JenneMede

Errr… can I award more than 5? I certainly have more than 5 more in mind. Lol!

She’s not the same anymore AFTER we got married!

Saturday 14 July 2007 @ 6:30 pm

In order to prevent the situation where you lament that your partner is not the same anymore sometimes its important to do a little exercise as follows.

Can you think back to the time when you were dating and about all the nice things you did for each other and then let your mind float back to the present and think about now. Does he/she still treat you the same? You should also ask yourself Do YOU still treat him/her the same?

I remember when I was his girlfriend and he said he wanted to have home cooked meals, I would drive home to my apartment after work, cook up a meal for the both of us then pack them nicely into a tiffin carrier before driving to wait for him at a petrol station to wait for him. Yes, thats right. I didn’t have the key to his place and he worked later than me. So I would wait for him at the petrol station with my little tiffin carrier of hot home cooked food. He would call me on his way home and we would chat on the phone while I waited for him.

Ahhhh what a sweet girlfriend. No wonder he married me. Hahaha. And what has he got now? A grouchy old lady who shouts at the kids when he gets home. :P

What about him? When we dating, I remember once on my birthday, he bought me shoes then told me he was taking me on a trip to walk on those new shoes. Another time, he bought me new tyres for my car and then took me on a trip on those new tyres. Haha.

Now what have I got now? For my recent birthday he surprised me with something I had wanted all my life. A piano. Then the next day he took me to the bookstore to buy a “Learn to play the piano on your own” book. And then he signed me up for piano lessons and told me that he will send me for my piano lessons and wait with the kids for the half hour lessons to finish before going home together. I’m so excited. I can’t wait for my first lesson even though I’m probably the oldest student there but who cares!

He knows that learning to play the piano is my lifetime dream so he is now making my dream come true. Now I can truly say that I married my the man of my dreams. Hahaha.

Ok. So whats the point of this exercise? Well comparing the us then and the way we treated each other then and the us now and the way we treat each other now, I think I better….. BUCK UP before my man decides to change model. Better increase those back rubs, foot massages and feeding him fruits along with the kids while he relaxes in front of the tv after dinner which he likes AND reduce the shouting at the kids. Hahaha.

What about you? Do you still treat each other the same? Care to share?

Crimes unreported by the media

Thursday 12 July 2007 @ 9:15 am

Source of Picture: Answers.com on Snatch Theft

The other day as I was settling my kids for their afternoon nap, we heard a loud “Vrrooom Vroommm” motorbike sound followed by a lady shouting for help. This happened right outside my house. Two men on a motorcycle had smashed her car window and took off with her handbag which she had left lying on the passenger seat.

Sounds familiar? This probably has happened to your family members, friends or neighbours. They are not reported in the media because no one got seriously injured or died in the crime. BUT it is scarily common. Much too common.

In another incident, hubby was at a mamak stall with a friend. While they were talking (they were sitting in the restaurant but quite near the open entrance) someone grabbed the friend’s handphone which was lying on the table and took off in a motorbike of an alliance who had been waiting.

My sister has had her handbag snatched before too, while she was struggling to open her car door one day. And so has my sis-in-law, while she was struggling to open her house gate with child in tow. Why? Because they were distracted at the time. And I am sure that anyone reading this will nod their heads and say, yes, yes, this has happened to my ______ (*fill in the blanks*) too.

The sad thing is they always target the weak and or helpless(meaning women or mothers with young children, older people etc), the ones who were not careful enough (as in the above incidents those who left their belongings visually tempting enough to the bad guys) and those who were distracted.

WHEN WILL IT STOP? JUST WHEN?!!

It seems to be getting worse these days. I don’t feel save anymore, not even outside my own house. :(
