Basic Telephone Etiquette

Stranger: Hello?

MG: Hello?

Stranger: Hello?

MG: Hello?

Stranger: Hello?

MG: Who do you wish to speak to?

Stranger: Wei? (Chinese for Hello)

MG: May I know who you wish to speak to?

Stranger: Wei?

MG: Who do you wish to speak to?

Stranger: Wei?

MG: Who would you like to speak to?!

Phone: TOot TOot TOot TOot

MG: *speechless*

Don’t you think some people need lessons in phone etiquette? C’mon. If you ring a wrong number. Just ask for the person you wish to speak to or ask if this is XXXX number and then apologize for ringing the wrong number. Is that so hard? Don’t pretend you didn’t hear me. I can hear you loud and clear.

  1. yeah i really hate those calls … especially those who call many times asking for the same person in one day. When you tell them there’s no such person staying here and they keep calling until you ‘screw’ them up nicely. Then they stop calling. So irritating! So mean hor me!

No you are not mean. I’d feel like doing the same if they keep on calling back AFTER you have told them that its the wrong number SEVERAL times!

  2. MG, hahaha, I was just thinking and thought it was funny. Maybe he wanted to speak to Wei?

I would have answered, “Wei not here!”

“Wei not here!” Next time I’ll try that.

  3. Worse still is the wrong number who calls up and asks “Who are you ah?” 😛

Hahaha. Yes yes. Those are super irritating. I will ask them back “Who are YOU calling?”
