My shoes were stolen previously. We were staying at a rented place when we moved to this part of the world. One of the neighbours then even commented those young thieves were waving at them (while carting away what seemed to be a bag of shoes) when neighbours spotted them.

Just a year ago we moved into our new place. We have guard dogs, we installed alarm on all our fence parameters as well as alarm within our house, CCTVs on all corners (almost) of our house...talk about paranoia.

The preventive measures were installed when 5 men armed with machetes broke into my neighbour's house in the middle of the night. Everyone in the house got tied up (all 7 in the house) while these 5 men ransacked the whole house. I knew something was wrong when my dogs went wild. I switched on my TV to check on my CCTV cameras but it was dark and our garden is too big so I did not get to see anything. I felt so helpless and all I could do was to call the police and my other neighbours. Hubby was away at that time.

Few weeks later hubby spoke to a friend who got tied up at home with the family members, similar modus operandi and was told there are at least 90 members in this syndicate (my part of the world) that carries out this activity.

You can call me kiasu or kiasi, with all these preventive measures at least I sleep better at night :)

90 members in the syndicate. Thats a lot and very scary.

Oh, so be careful MG!
I did have an experience of thieve at my own home, but only the motorcycle safety helmet of my hubby was missing when we forgot to close the front gate.

I've had my shoes and clothes and even underclothes stolen before. The gates were clothes but it didn't stop them from climbing over.

ALAMAK! SO AUNTY LA ME!

we all just have to be extra extra careful.
some are break-ins, some are car hijackers....
we all live in the era that nothing is safe anymore...:(

I remember when I was young, I used to cycle to school alone. Now, I won't dare let the kids cycle anywhere unless I'm there watching with my hawkeye. So sad.

Get a guard dog.

A number of neighbours who had their drain covers stolen had guard dogs. It didn't do them any good in this case.

My housemate was robbed a few years ago by 2 men on a motorbike during heavy rain. She was making sure she got into the house dry, trying to hold the umbrella and filding with her keys when they came up behind her and grabbed her handbag and left.

My sis-in-law had her bag snatched when she was struggling at her gate with a kid in tow. Its no longer safe even right outside our homes.

Hi, new to your blog. Yeah, can't agree more that crime rate has indeed gone up. My mum was pick pocketed at the TTDI market not long ago and she lost quite a bit of money. Thank goodness the thieves dropped everything else, so only money is lost. sigh...

Hi Krystal. Welcome to my blog. Yes, my sister had her handbag snatched too before in SS2. Like your mum, they threw the bag into a drain after that and some good samaritan returned it to her when they found her using her i/c address so fortunately only money was lost.

Ii think it is harder to find a person who has not experienced first hand snatch thief before! And the security people are taking the opportunity to charge us by our nose for some security in the neighbourhood. Reckon perhaps there is a sindicate going on??

Someone commented cheaper to get the 'tai yee loong' indian gangster head to take care of us. Like the ol' days!

Come to think of it, the police has been useless ever since then even!

So sad isn't it and frustrating too.
