Email Communication for Busy Spouses

We communicate via email sometimes. It may sound ridiculous but sometimes we email each other every day to “talk”. For us, email is a very effective and useful form of communication.

With young kids around and very little hours in a day where we get to see each other, we hardly have time to talk each day. And even if we do have time to talk, we’re always being interrupted during our conversation, either by kids or by the thousands of things that we need to do in our todo list.

During the weekdays, hubby leaves the house before we’re awake. He says goodbye to us individually and we all murmur back at him sleepily. Haha. When he gets home, its his turn to murmur back at us because he is usually either too tired or has more work to do. That was how it was before the girl went to Primary School. Now, its just a sleepy rush for everyone in the morning accept the little one who gets to sleep in a little longer each morning. With the kids around, that leaves zero communication hours each work week day. That leaves only the weekend and we’re always busy during the weekends as well, rushing around to do this errand and that.

So we find the email very useful. We email the things we want to say to each other before we forget to say them. Little mundane things or things that we want to update each other about. Sometimes hubby writes down those things in a little notebook to be talked about later but email is faster. We just write down whatever we want to say and the other spouse replies quickly in email then we discuss them in more detail when we do find the time to talk or we might reply in person instead of via email. Crazy? But it works for us and I’m happy to email the man about my day for him to read about in the evenings or early mornings otherwise I would probably forget to tell him all the little details by the time we manage to find the time to talk. 😉

  1. I can totally relate to this communication by email because we do it too! Good to know we’re not alone in this 🙂

With email, you can “talk” without being interrupted. Hahaha.

  2. I guess it is better than not communicate at all. New technologies are emerging and if you have the budget, both of you could go for always on 3G connection and install the MSN messenger. This way, you’re always connected and better response time as you bring it along with you all the time.

    Cheers.

That would be nice. My phone is very outdated, cheapo type so can’t do that at the moment.

  3. well, i don’t email but i often chat with hubby on Gmail chat or MSN. 😉

Unfortunately, my husband doesn’t have MSN or Gmail in his office now (can you imagine that!). We used to enjoy chatting with each other on MSN previously. It was fun to send each other silly icons etc. 🙂

  4. Hmm…I think we fail in this area.

Y’see..I’ll write a super long email.

    He’ll reply with two words.

    “Ok dear”

    That’s it.

So..I gave up emailing him a very long time ago…;)

Hahaha. Well, when I get mad at him, then I’ll write him a super long email and he’d go “Hah! You email me again ah.” and I won’t get a reply, not even an “Ok dear”. lol. With email, I can think of what I want to say first before I regret saying something. Hahaha. But then sometimes also hit “Send” before the head clears. 😛

  5. I and hubby also talk sometimes through email or MSN. But I get very irritated sometimes coz he doesn’t read very well! 🙂

Haha. So now we know, not only do men not listen well, they also don’t read very well. LOL!

  6. my hubs does not do internet.. so how to communicate? luckily, he is around for breakfast, lunch, dinner n supper. so ample of time for communication, or else.. finish!

If he is around for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper then no need to email lah! lol.

  7. haha u’re right. Hardly got anytime to talk. Well at least when u emailed him he will reply u. Mine will read and press X. the end….

Well, if its about the kids, I usually get a reply but if its a long complaint of mine then its usually “Oh sorry, I deleted adi!” Hahaha.

  8. i used to chat/email with hubby last time from home. it feels so good that i can know he is always there and keep him updated about the kids and things at home. now that he has changed to another department. call / sms also no time liao, sigh…

Yah, previously I could chat with him online through msn so it was more instant than email… nvmlah, email also sapu lah. lol. Sometimes I email for him to read when he comes back home because I might forget to tell him otherwise. hahaha.

  9. we also email to each other every weekday 🙂
