I’m never short of hugs at home. A hug is the most powerful thing. With just a short hug you say “I Love You and I Care About You” without words. Its a warm lovely feeling to be hugged and to hug and cuddle.
The thing with children is they give their hugs so freely. With two young kids at home, I’m never short of hugs. If I want a hug, all I need to do is put out my arms to one of them and they’ll run eagerly into my arms for a hug. The man is a little bit more restraint than that.
I wonder why people give out hugs so easily when they’re young and then shy away from them when they’re adults? Why do people find it so easy to hug their children but not their parents?
Even if I don’t put out my arms, they’ll usually creep or gravitate towards me somehow. Last night after lights were out and everyone was told to shhhh after a while, one little one crept towards me, hugged me and said “Mummy, you’re a good mummy.” That gave me the warmest feeling ever.
I hope to raise children who will not be afraid to hug. I hope that they will not become shy or afraid to hug me when they grow up so I’m going to teach them that there is nothing to be shy about in hugging and showing someone that you care about them through hugs. How do you teach that? By giving out plenty of hugs naturally.
Hopefully that will keep my hug supply going for many more years to come and not only in toddlerhood or childhood.

Children learn by example. If they see mummy hugging only kids and not adults, they will eventually grow up to be the same. I am a ‘hugger’ by nature but we have to learn to hug too. I cant be hugging a stranger passionately as I would do with friends and children. Cheers to you… this is the way to go
ah finally i can comment here! yeah huh.. why when we’re young we give more hugs and when we’re older we don’t. Is it maybe cos we’re shy (cos of the body changes) or just because…. not so loving anymore?
I love hugs, i like to get and give also esp from my kids. Now they hung onto me like koala bear and I’m not gona complain cos i know one day they’ll tell me “mom stop it. you’re embarassing me!”
R U gonna make another koala bear? Hahaha.
Ah MG, I wish you’re having teenagers especially boy (just like me), so we could sharing this matter. lol!
I put in my mind (hope this is just for temporary), maybe because of the puberty stage that make them shy to let us hug them (especially in public) or maybe because we’re come from Asia? Sometimes I wonder what happen with the US or European teenagers..same or not?
Yah Henny, I wonder too. So I better enjoy it while I can huh. Only a few more years to go.
*Hi-Five*
Same here!
never short of hugs, never short of kisses, never short of “I Love Yousssss”
This is the right environment we want our child to grow up in, isn’t it?!
*wink*
Benghui n I are very close. hugs r still aprt of our life. i expect it to stop soon though as he is growing so fast
I love getting hugs from my ids too, and sometimes I even say, “I need a hug” and either one or both will come give me a really good one.
Unfortunately, I think when they hit puberty, they will become more self conscious about their body, and would not be so ready to get physically close to another body.
So get as much as you can out of them now, mama.
p/s- When your kids stop hugging you as willingly, that’s the time to get it from your man.
🙂
Why not get it now as well? Hehe.
Awwwww……that is so sweet….
I want a hug too!!!
Just today, Alycia told #2 this “mummy is a very good mummy” I was absolutely flattered! I love it too whenever my girls give me hugs and kisses. They are never too much!
They are never enough. 🙂
