Zumba Fitness

Monday 18 October 2010 @ 10:24 am

It’s Monday. Time to get back to some exercise after two days off.  This is what I am doing currently. Zumba for Fitness. Yay!

The basic Zumba exercise video that I got from YouTube is not very fantastic in quality but it’s fun. The exercises are divided into several parts, each part being only 5 minutes.  There are 3 zumba videos in all, each one being about 15 minutes. That makes it interesting and fun. Definitely more fun than paddling on the stationary bike or running on a treadmill.

If you want to tone up body parts, this is not for you. However, it is good enough to work up a sweat and speed up your heart rate a little. Any movement is better than being sedentary. It is too easy to lead a sedantary lifestyle.

I would prefer walking outdoors and breath in the fresh air but since it is not feasible, this will do.

On the digital scale, my weight tends to fluctuate between 125 pounds to 130 pounds. That is my current equilibrium. After a week of careful eating and daily exercise, I am now tipping towards the 125 pounds end of my equilibrium. My goal is to tip it further on a decremental 5 pound scale each time. So for now, my initial goal is 120 pounds. That does not seem too far but it is HARD!!! So far it has always been hard for me to breach that 125 pounds barrier.

Putting on 5 pounds is SO EASY! Losing 5 pounds is HARD!!!!!!

RIght, better get on with it then. Anyone want to join in? Give this video a try. See if you can last 45 minutes till the end of the 3rd video?

Belly Dance your Belly Away!

Tuesday 28 September 2010 @ 11:43 am

Being a housewife who seldoms get out of the house, I have to rely on exercise videos to get my dose of exercises. However, I am easily bored. Thank goodness that apart from my small collection of exercise dvds, there is YouTube.

At the moment I am into Belly Dancing. Yeah, you heard that right. I love to dance for fitness. I started with Latin Dance, then Street Dance, now Belly Dancing, anything dance is certainly more interesting than jogging around the house.

Anyway, there is no need to be embarrassed or shy. With the windows drawn, no one can see my big belly jiggling. Haha. If you watch the Belly Dancing fitness video, you will find that the girls do not have any belly and the only thing they have “jiggling” are their hips. They are so graceful indeed. Now, if only I can look like that.

Most times, I am too lazy to exercise. I prefer to play the piano or read. Today is one of those days, so instead of Belly Dancing, I am blogging about Belly Dancing instead while I chew on my food. :P

Err…. I wonder if watching Belly Dancing fitness videos on YouTube will make me lose weight? Hmmm…. somehow, I think not. lol. But if only, if only………….. I would watch it everyday. ;)

Can a Sauna help you to burn calories and lose weight?

Tuesday 19 January 2010 @ 9:51 am

I wonder if anyone knows whether a Sauna can help you to burn calories and lose weight? I remember some years ago I used to go for saunas right after a workout. I am not sure whether it helped me lose weight but it sure felt relaxing and really, really good.

After a workout, the whole body feels tired. However a workout PLUS a sauna makes me feel extremely relaxed. Then a vigorating shower and I feel good all over. I used to go to a fitness centre for this fix of workout, sauna and shower but now I can’t do it anymore because I no longer have the luxury of time. I wish I could do it in my own home.

I think that a sauna can aid in some way in the weight reduction process because you sweat and sweating is good for you. However, I think that if you want to seriously lose weight, you have to work for it. You have to do a combination of dieting, exercising and use saunas as an aid to your weight management process. Just dieting alone is not good, neither is mere exercising or just saunas. You have to make use of all these processes in totality or as a whole. Then and only then will you see serious and long lasting results.

Whatever it is, if you wish to go on a strict diet, start an exercise program or use saunas to help you lose weight, you should always consult your doctor first.

I shall exercise 30 minutes everyday

Wednesday 6 January 2010 @ 8:49 am

Today is the day. Yes, today I have time for me again. You will notice that my blog post has been in a lull but now perhaps, I shall be able to churn out more posts again.

It has been a hectic 6 weeks of school holidays for the kids. We didn’t go anywhere, only Genting, but it was still hectic all the same. It is always hectic when you have young kids at home. The days fly by in a whirlwind.

During the 6 weeks, I did not do any exercises at all! I also ate and ate and ate along with the kids. I made tea for them and ate with them. Instead of their regular breakfast of a piece of toast and milk, I made them pancakes, and french toasts etc and I ate along with them. I also added marjerine and peanut butter and bananas and honey just like them.

What have I got to show after 6 weeks of school holidays? Why, a bigger pouch of course around the tummy area and a smaller pouch as the money drained from the real purse or pouch since we ate out more and took them to the movies etc. Oh oh!

So, my New Year’s resolution which I just made today or right now, is to exercise everyday for 30 minutes each day. Then hopefully, in 6 weeks time, I will lose the weight that I gain in the last 6 weeks, just in time to fit into a new Cheongsum for Chinese New Year. :P

Three pounds backwards, Five Pounds Forewards

Thursday 11 September 2008 @ 12:15 pm

*steps on the scales gingerly*

AAAAAHHHHHHH AAAAHHHHHH WAAAAAHHHHH!

Its a case of one step forward, two steps back. Remember I said I lost 3 pounds after the maid arrived because I could control my food better?

As it turned out, I controlled my food so well, that I started making nice teas etc for the kids and ate along with them and then…….. Not only did I regain my 3 pounds, I added another 2 pounds making a total gain of 5 pounds. 5 POUNDS! *Sobs*

My tummy is back with a vengance. My arms. Oh my arms. They look so aunty. (Well, I am aunty but don’t have to look like aunty wut!) And not to mention those elephant thighs. And the double chin thats reforming. HEELLLP!

Ok. Ok. Calm down. (tells self). Remember your self professed double it half it diet? Just double  your veges and half your rice and DON’T EAT THE CHILDREN’S LEFTOVERS!!!!!!

And forget about teas and suppers with the kids (still telling self). Just prepare the food for them then walk away and let them enjoy it. No need to sit down with them and chat and EAT.

But then mooncake festival is on Sunday. I just gotta have some mooncakes at least. Its just once a year. So how? Nvm, nvm, don’t be so hard on yourself, lets start after Sunday then shall we? Aiyah, like that how to lose weight friend!

Some more want to bake. Better forget about baking for now. Otherwise sure grow fatter trying all the muffins and cakes that nobody else wants to eat when it doesn’t turn out well. Gulp!

How lah. How lah. 5 POUNDS is a lot. How to take it off and take some more off. Its going to be such hard work and self discipline. Right, I should go and do some exercise now. Sitting around blogging isn’t going to help me lose weight. Cheerio…..

Have a happy weekend and don’t eat too many mooncakes (telling self again). Happy Mid Autumn Festival and Happy Playing Lantern with the kids for those of you with kids. For those without, you can pak tor with Lanterns too. Very romantic.
